Summary
The official name for Riot Games’ foray into the fighting game genre, which was first known as Project L for many years, is 2XKO. This fighter, which comes from the creators of the wildly successful League of Legends, will have a cast directly taken from that MOBA, but with whole new rules. Although this genre was originally known for being difficult for new players to get into, games like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 have shown that it is feasible to make the genre more approachable for a wider audience. We anticipate that many people who wouldn’t ordinarily touch fighters would at least be interested, given the popularity of the source material and the fact that the game will be free to play. Whoever you are, let’s begin by going over all of the information we currently have regarding 2XKO.
Release date window
The complete name of the game was revealed, and we also found out that 2XKO will be out sometime in 2025. Given the amount of space left, it seems likely the team is allowing itself plenty of time to work out any kinks.
Platforms
When Riot Games’ 2XKO releases as a free-to-play game, it will be available on PCs, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Trailers
The introduction of 2XKO’s name serves as the sole official trailer. Along with showing off some of the cast characters we may expect to play as, this trailer is all action.
Gameplay
In a fighter, gameplay is essential, and 2XKO does things differently. The game’s name itself alludes to the kind of fighter it is—a tag-style 2v2 format reminiscent of a Marvel vs. Capcom title—and its emphasis on fighting. Combat will have three primary buttons for light, medium, and heavy strikes. However, special moves will all be accomplished by hitting a single button and holding it in a certain direction, eliminating the need for players to learn and carry out intricate combinations. The contemporary control layout of Street Fighter 6 is an example of this kind of technology. Basic blocks, parries, dashes, anti-airs, and other fighting game essentials will also be available to you.
2XKO offers a team mode where you play with a partner and each control a single character, in contrast to the classic mode where you face a single opponent and control both of their characters as they tag them in and out. Each character who assists will have a Last Stand mechanism in addition to two chargeable attacks that they may choose from when called upon. This acts as a return mechanism and is only accessible when your assistance is knocked out.
Characters
Right now, only a small number of characters are known to be in 2XKO. They are as follows:
Ahri Darius
Ekko Illaoi Jinx
Katarina Yasuo Advance Order
Although 2XKO won’t need a presale since it will be available for free upon debut, you may register for forthcoming playtests on the game’s official website. The team expects to begin allowing players to test it out before the end of 2024, although they have not disclosed when such testing may take place.
