Summary
From being a glorified web browser, Chromebooks have developed into full-fledged operating systems. The inclusion of high-end functionality like SSDs, stylus compatibility, and high-resolution touchscreens is a sign of this maturity.
How to turn off your Chromebook’s touchscreen
But during the last few years, a lot of the functionality seen in the more expensive Chromebooks have found their way into less expensive versions. A touchscreen is probably present on your laptop if it’s a relatively new Chromebook. By following the instructions in this guide, you may quickly turn off your Chromebook touchscreen.
How to disable your Chromebook’s touchscreen
You must enable a flag that turns on an experimental functionality that ChromeOS has not yet implemented in order to switch off the touchscreen on your Chromebook. Developers who test these features and how they work with their software and hardware are the target of flags. These flags are intended for developers, but you may still use them to give your devices amazing new functionality.
- Launch the Google Chrome browser on your Chromebook.
- Type chrome://flags/#ash-debug-shortcuts into the address bar and press Enter. This launches the Chrome flags window and brings you to this specific flag.
- To the right of the Debugging keyboard shortcuts option, tap the Disabled drop-down menu.
- Change the option to Enabled.
- A pop-up at the bottom reminds you to reboot your Chromebook to enable this flag. Tap the Restart button to restart your device.
- After your device restarts, press Search + Shift + T to turn off the touchscreen. To turn it on, press the same key combination.
How to turn off your Chromebook’s touchpad
You may accidentally press the touchpad while typing if your Chromebook is equipped with a wireless mouse. In order to avoid unintentional mouse clicks and motions, turn off your touchpad.
- Follow the steps above to enable the Debugging keyboard shortcuts flag.
- After enabling the flag, press the Shift + Search + P keys to turn off the touchpad. Press the same combination to turn it back on.
Touch no more
Touchscreens and other amenities are helpful, but they may also be problematic. The touchscreen or touchpad may be turned off whenever it’s convenient after the Debugging keyboard shortcuts flag is on. To identify the issue if you have problems with your touchscreen or touchpad, use the Chromebook Diagnostics application.
