The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024)
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is a British historical comedy in which Noel Fielding, from The Great British Bake-Off, plays the lead role. Turpin is a real person, after all. He was an English highwayman who gained notoriety as a poacher, burglar, and murderer before being sentenced to death for horse theft in the 1700s. However, this series is a fictitious depiction of his life, as the name suggests.
Turpin, the head of the Essex Gang, is being hunted by vigilante Jonathan Wilde and a group called The Syndicate. The comical interpretation of an otherwise terrifying story has garnered positive feedback from both reviewers and spectators. Critics such as Barbara Ellen of the Observer UK commend the play for being “droll and silly” and for having a “wry, surrealist kick.”

Extraordinary (2023)
Extraordinary, which is now in its second season, is probably one of the superhero comedies you’ve never heard of. In the parallel universe shown in the British series, individuals get unique abilities upon reaching the age of 18. However, 25-year-old Jen (Máiréad Tyers) is sadly still waiting for hers to happen. Her life is far from perfect; she has a profession that doesn’t seem to be fulfilling, is in a relationship with a guy who leaves her after only one intimate moment, and lives as the third wheel with her boyfriend Kash (Bilal Hasna) and best friend Carrie (Sofia Oxenham). It doesn’t help that fierce envy was aroused by Jen’s stepsister, who gained her abilities the instant she was recognized as an adult.
While the story of Extraordinary is on a lady without supernatural abilities, it also serves as a commentary on the demands placed on youth to blend in, meet expectations, and outperform their classmates. Extraordinary, which has a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season, skillfully combines deeper, more poignant moments with scathing humor as Jen tries to find her place in a world where she doesn’t appear to have any.

The Gentlemen (2024)
The Gentlemen is one of those series you may have heard of and perhaps even seen appear on your Netflix suggested list, but you never thought to start watching. It has been getting mostly great reviews since it premiered earlier this month. The Guy Ritchie action comedy is quite enjoyable, so definitely give it a go. In it, Theo James (The White Lotus) plays Edward “Eddie” Horniman, who became the Duke of Halstead when his father died. However, he quickly learns that a drug lord is using the property belonging to his family and has no intention of moving his empire. The former UN peacekeeper now has to find out how to maintain harmony on his own land.
The Gentlemen, a 2019 film based on Ritchie’s same-titled film, features a little of everything: humor, violence, twists in the story, and interesting characters. It’s the sort of program that’s ideal to watch when you’re unsure of what else to watch.
