Summary
The yearly developer conference hosted by Google is drawing near. The dates for Google I/O 2024 have been released by the corporation. We have certain predictions and informed assumptions about what we will see, even if we don’t know much about Google’s plans for its big reveal. If the last year is any indication, Google plans to release further generative AI tools that use Gemini, and we could learn anything about Android 15. A hardware launch or two is also possible; the Google Pixel 8a is a strong contender for a May unveiling.
What date is Google I/O 2024 scheduled for?
With three notable exceptions, Google I/O has always been held in May. In 2012 and 2014, the event was rescheduled for June; in 2020, it was called off. Google said that the event would take place on May 14, 2024, in keeping with the custom of holding it in mid-May.
As usual, Google invited people to solve this small puzzle game to help them find out the date. This year, the date wasn’t disclosed for many hours. The task was to construct a marble’s route using a progressively larger number of components, such as spinning puzzle pieces and buttons.
How can one anticipate Google I/O 2024?
Even though Google I/O is quickly approaching, not much is known about what the company has in store for us. Being a developer conference, the subjects covered are always relevant to those who create websites and applications. With Google introducing major moonshot ideas like Google Glass and several of its gadgets, the event has also grown more accessible to customers over the last 15 years.
The Google Pixel 8a was shown, but not much else
The impending midrange Google phone is shown in various renderings, and the Pixel 8a rumor mill is in full gear. It’s even said to be more costly than its predecessor, which would limit access to the whole Google Pixel series. The Pixel 8a seems to be sticking to the same design philosophy as the top Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, but somewhat smaller. Many of Google’s low-cost phones have already been unveiled at Google I/O. Since a lot of information has been made public regarding the Pixel 8a, we wouldn’t be shocked if this happened this year.
Beyond the Pixel 8a, we don’t believe Google will release any other hardware. The pace of speculations and leaks about the Pixel Fold 2 has only lately picked up, suggesting that it is still a while off from the original Fold, which was unveiled at Google I/O 2023. We’re also not upset about this. This allows Google’s next CPU, the Tensor G4, which is expected to be included in the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, to be available for the Fold 2 at launch.
Aside from a few online references to the Pixel Tablet 2’s codename, we haven’t heard anything new about the gadget. Although a preview of the Pixel Tablet 2 during this year’s Google I/O wouldn’t be shocking, a debut in the coming months is not what we’re anticipating.
There probably will be AI everywhere.
In response to ChatGPT’s unexpected success, Google took a step back and then applied as much generative AI as it could to determine what worked. We now know more about Google’s approach. The business is putting all of its resources on its generative Gemini model, which underpins Samsung’s AI features and its chatbot. There are rumors that Google and Apple are discussing how to help one other out with generative AI capabilities for iOS.
It’s probable that at the conference, Google would discuss some of these partnerships and some of the tools it provided to developers. We probably won’t find out more until June, at Apple’s WWDC developer conference, if the Apple merger closes.
Google focused on integrating AI into more of its services and applications at the same time. One of these is the Gemini chatbot, named for the underlying model, which is intended to take the role of Google Assistant. It can now respond to more queries than Assistant ever could. Although it still has to improve on accuracy, it uses Assistant for easier tasks like “turn off the lights.” At Google I/O, there may be additional information released about the transition plan, including what will happen to the current Google Assistant home devices.
Google will probably release more innovative AI features after that. More on-device features for the Pixel 8 Pro, an improved version of Gemini, and wider availability from other Android manufacturers are all possible outcomes.
There may be a sneak peek at Android 15
Although Google has scheduled the first Android 15 Beta release for April, it wouldn’t be shocking if the company decided to hold off on revealing certain features until Google I/O in order to make a bigger splash. With the exception of Android 14, it has been Google’s approach throughout the last several years. The AI portion of the speech last year took up so much time that the business hardly had time to discuss its updated operating system. Since that Google is probably going to concentrate on AI for the second year in a row, we wouldn’t be shocked if it made room for more subjects.
Google I/O 2024 is almost approaching
Perhaps Google I/O 2014, which is commemorating its tenth anniversary, will be more fascinating than Google I/O 2024. The firm debuted its revamped Android Lollipop, complete with a unified Material design language, along with its WearOS precursor, Android Wear, Android TV, and Android Auto, back then. If it means more generative AI in even more areas, this year’s Google I/O will still provide us a peek of what Google has in store for the future. Keep an eye out for all the leaks that will undoubtedly occur before May 14, 2024, in the meantime.
