If prior performance is any indication, the Google Pixel 8a isn’t far off. Google has announced that its annual I/O developer conference will begin on May 14, and three of the five Pixel A devices to date have been revealed at previous events.
It’s feasible that the next affordable Pixel device may arrive in less than two months. But how different do we anticipate it to be from the Google Pixel 7a, which remains near the top of our best inexpensive phones list?
These are the primary enhancements that we anticipate.
Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: A big screen upgrade
One of the reasons the Pixel 7a was such a great value was how similar its features were to the Pixel 7. And it appears that the difference may be even smaller this year, with the Pixel 8a expected to use comparable screen technology as the Pixel 8.
According to trusted Pixel leaker Kamila Wojciechowska, who revealed for Android Authority that the screen refresh rate would increase from 90Hz on the 7a to 120Hz on the 8a. It will also seem to equal the Pixel 8’s max brightness of 1,400nits (up from 1,000nits for its predecessor).
That’s a good surprise, given that the Pixel 7a’s screen was already an advance from the Pixel 6a’s 60Hz panel. A second planned improvement might improve game frame rates and result in smoother animations.
Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Hello Tensor G3
The Pixel 7a featured (nearly) the same Tensor G2 processor as the Pixel 7, and the Pixel 8a will receive a similar update to Tensor G3, according to Wojciechowska. That’s “a much bigger leap for the A series” than last year’s improvement, she claims.
