WhatsApp has been a busy month, highlighting its status as one of our preferred encrypted messaging applications. While the stable channel exhibited little changes, the beta testers saw various modifications, including the implementation of speech transcription for voice notes and the integration of biometric verification for app lock. Nevertheless, the most prominent modifications that users will see are to the enhanced capability of pinning more chats and messages. Currently, the support is being expanded to include the Calls tab, which was previously absent.
WhatsApp conducted beta testing in March, introducing more lenient restrictions on pinning. This enabled some testers to pin up to five conversations under the Chats tab, as opposed to the standard three. Previously, the app only permitted the pinning of one message inside each chat. However, this month, it has been tested with a new restriction of three messages. While highlighting messages may serve as a substitute for pinning in a discussion, the latter has the advantage of an expiry timer. It remains uncertain if WhatsApp will maintain this feature, given its current permissive three-message restriction.
Although there are still unresolved inquiries, WhatsApp users have not experienced the convenience of accessing assistance outside the Chats page. Consequently, users are unable to attach status updates or Channels that they would otherwise overlook, nor can they conveniently reach contacts via the Calls tab. However, it seems that Meta is not yet finished providing us with more support for pinning, since WhatsApp testers have seen WhatsApp testing support for pinning a select number of frequently-contacted numbers to the top of the call log in the Calls tab.
Select a few numbers on the speed dial
WhatsApp is now conducting a beta version 2.24.7.18 where they are testing a new part called “Favorites” on the Calls tab. This section allows users to save people and groups they often contact. According to WABetaInfo, it is necessary to designate the contact or group as a favorite on the Chats page, and the modifications will be immediately reflected in the Calls tab. Nevertheless, the testers do not provide a certain number of favorites that may be chosen.
In contrast, contacts that are pinned in the conversations tab are provided with convenient one-tap choices for both voice and video conversations. Conversely, contacts listed in your log are limited to a shortcut that allows you to resume the most recent form of call, whether it voice or video.
This function is expected to be expanded to a larger number of beta testers in the near future. Once it is generally released, it is expected to significantly reduce the time spent on contacting individuals in a hurry. If you often make phone calls to just a small number of individuals, including them in your favorites might be the most convenient method of contacting them, even if you do not have their chat pinned. Prior to the implementation of the function, users had the option to expedite the process of dialing someone by doing a search for their contact information, pressing on their profile image, and then choosing the voice or video call shortcut that is prominently displayed underneath the enlarged profile photo preview.
