Meta has, just like every other contemporary technology company, thrown itself headlong into the field of artificial intelligence (AI), releasing its AI chatbot in September of last year. We also heard at the time that artificial intelligence will eventually make its way into its products, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and other such services. WhatsApp has been fairly sluggish to take up features, in contrast to Messenger and Instagram, which have already seen components of artificial intelligence integrate into their platforms. In spite of this, it is possible that this may soon change since the messaging app is now extending the integration of Meta AI’s search bar to additional users.
In November, we were able to get a sneak peek at WhatsApp’s incorporation of generative artificial intelligence. Next, a recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android included the artificial intelligence chatbot to the search bar of the application. The integration of Meta AI inside the search bar was first restricted to a select number of locations, as reported by WABetaInfo. However, WhatsApp is now extending the experiment to include a greater number of users from all over the world.
It is interesting to note that the experiment seems to be active for users of both iOS and Android; yet, the post does not name a specific version of the program that permits this functionality. In spite of the fact that WABetaInfo was only able to collect images from the iOS version, we have previously seen the redesigned search bar on Android, which was made available to us via the beta update that was released a month ago.
Additionally, users will be able to access Meta AI in WhatsApp by pressing the dedicated icon located in the upper right corner of the Chats page, as can be seen in the previously mentioned image. There is currently no information available on whether or not WhatsApp will continue to provide Meta AI via both the search bar and the icon in upcoming updates.
It is believed that the conventional search functionality, such as locating a certain message, group, or contact, will continue to operate normally, despite the fact that the search bar has been enhanced with Meta AI. The data would not be shared with Meta’s servers until the user asked the chatbot a question, according to WABetaInfo, which also gives some further information on the integration of Meta AI. Furthermore, it has been stated that the suggested prompts that are shown by Meta AI are created at random, and there is no user data gathered in order to further customize these recommendations.
In the past, WhatsApp has conducted tests using a variety of artificial intelligence systems
Over the course of the previous several months, WhatsApp has conducted tests on a variety of artificial intelligence technologies, one of which is the integrated chatbot experience. The first time we came across AI-based customer help was in October of the previous year, and the integrated chatbot was introduced a month later. Moving ahead in time to March 2024, we discovered an Android beta version of WhatsApp that has borrowed the artificial intelligence-based picture editing features of Instagram’s sibling app, including Backdrop, Restyle, and Expand.
Away from the inclusion of features based on artificial intelligence, WhatsApp developers are continuing to enhance the functioning of the app’s beta versions. A potentially substantial update to the picture editing experience on large-screen devices such as tablets and foldables was being tested by the chat app earlier this week. This was done to ensure that the experience is uniform across all platforms.
How to get Meta AI in WhatsApp?
Users may interact with Meta AI by opening WhatsApp and looking for the symbol that represents Meta AI in the bottom right corner of the screen. By tapping on it, users are granted access to the Meta AI mailbox, which allows them to easily express questions or request picture production.
