Palm Royale (2024)
Kristin Wiig, a veteran of Saturday Night Live, plays Maxine Simmons in Palm Royale, a 1969 Palm Beach setting about a lady who is anxious to get into high society. She is a “have-not,” but she would do almost everything to get into the “have” category. She starts by gaining entry to the world’s most elite club, where she feels she belongs, but others don’t share her opinion. A tale of aspiration, elegance, class, and enormous riches, Maxine’s aspirations may be thwarted or made possible by the drama, blackmail, and secrets. In contrast to her typical physical humor, Wiig will be playing more subdued humor, complete with a Southern accent and flawless period attire.
Laura Dern executive produces Palm Royale, which is partially based on the Juliet McDaniel book Mr. and Mrs. American Pie. The series also stars Mindy Cohn, Kaia Gerber, Allison Janney, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Allison Dern, Kristen Wiig. The excellent ensemble cast of Palm Royale, which includes guest stars Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett, is enough to grab your attention.
Constellation (2024)
In this compelling psychological thriller, Noomi Rapace (Jack Ryan) plays Johanna “Jo” Ericsson. She is an astronaut who, after a disastrous mission, returns to Earth. However, nothing is the same, and she can’t get rid of the uneasy sensation. There are odd things going on in her life, including why there’s a piano in her home even though she doesn’t play, and parts of her life appear missing.
Jo is experiencing hallucinations, and she has been informed that sometimes, people see insane things in space. Jo would do everything to acquire assistance and answers since she is desperate for them. James D’Arcy from Oppenheimer and Jonathan Banks from Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are both featured in Constellation. Constellation is often criticized for its speed, but if you can see beyond it, reviewers like Rory Doherty of Paste Magazine describe the program as “engaging” and “often unsettling.”
Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock (2022)
Everybody who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s is familiar with Jim Henson’s endearing Fraggles. With its collection of shorts titled Fraggle Rock: Rock On!, Apple TV+ revived them, and the popularity of these prompted a revival of the original program Fraggle Rock in the form of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.
Along with new Fraggle pals, beloved characters like Gobo, Red, Wembley, Mokey, and Boober make a reappearance. With the aid of jokes, music, and of course dancing, the Fraggles, Doozers, and Gorge will overcome the significant changes that have occurred in the Rock in the second season. For those with a nostalgic streak and children seeking an entertaining and daring program that honors the reality we live in, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock is an absolute must-watch.
The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy (2023)
In the 1970s and 1980s, Eugene Levy entertained audiences with his sketch comedy program SCTV, which brought him renown. Later, a new generation saw him as the uncomfortable and amusing father in American Pie. However, the veteran comic and actor’s Emmy-winning performance as the lead in the sitcom Schitt’s Creek helped make him a household figure among younger audiences. With The Reluctant Traveler, a docuseries that chronicles his travels to some of the most intriguing places on earth, including Italy, Costa Rica, South Africa, and even the United States, the comedian is now taking on new adventures. He stays in Europe for season two, visiting Sweden, Italy, Greece, and other countries.
The show, according to Levy, is an investigation into a “world [he] spent his whole life avoiding.” The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy is a series that will appeal to both travelers and non-travelers alike because of Levy’s unique voice, comic timing, and real likeability. The entire family will enjoy watching it.
Masters of the Air (2024)
One of Apple TV+’s greatest successes to far is Masters of the Air, which has a star-studded ensemble that includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan in addition to Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg in producer roles. The narrative of the troops known as the 100th Bomb Group is told in the war drama, which is based on the Donald L. Miller book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany. During World War II, the Eighth Air Force included the B-17 Flying Fortress, which was known as the “Bloody Hundredth” due to the high casualty rate of its perilous combat missions.
Masters of the Air, a Band of Brothers and The Pacific companion series, was postponed because of the COVID-19 epidemic, but the wait was well worth it. The powerful and compelling series has received largely excellent reviews in its early going, with viewers calling it a remarkable examination of courage and resiliency. Incredible visual effects are reportedly included as well.
Criminal Record (2024)
Peter Capaldi plays DCI Daniel Hegarty in this British murder thriller, while Cush Jumbo plays DS June Lenker. This is a well-worn tale of two very different detectives—one seasoned and the other rookie—working together to solve a crime. However, nothing is quite as it appears. Lenker is fervently seeking the truth, but Hegarty wants to let sleeping dogs lie when fresh information on the cold case suggests a convicted man may be innocent.
An anonymous phone call sets off the events in Criminal Record, and things take a turn for the worse. Secrets that endanger both sides come to light as the case is solved. Lenker wants to leave her own legacy, while Hegarty has to preserve his. The program addresses racial and institutional failure themes, and Jumbo and Capaldi have been hailed as a “formidable pairing.”
Loot (2022)
Despite having a lower profile than many of the other high-profile Apple TV+ originals, Loot is a comedy set in a workplace. However, Loot is a great option if you’re searching for something to watch when you’re bored. With an ensemble cast that includes SNL alum Maya Rudolph (who also serves as executive producer), Alan Yang (creator of Little America and Master of None), Adam Scott (Severance), Matt Hubbard (30 Rock), MJ Rodriguez (Pose), Ron Funches (Undateable), and Nat Faxon (Married), Loot is a star-studded production. Rudolph plays millionaire Molly, who has everything a woman could want for until her pompous husband John (Scott) betrays her and sends her into a tailspin.
Molly is approached by the head of one of her charitable institutions after the split caused a great deal of negative publicity. The group is a parody of rich housewives who have more money than they know what to do with and no engagement in anything; Molly was unaware of it even. Molly, however, is not like that. She finds meaning in meeting others who commit their life to serving others. Maybe the genuine happiness for her will come from giving back. Loot is worth seeing because of its wonderful ensemble, which injects fun and heart into an otherwise depressing story. There will be a second season soon.
Slow Horses (2022)
In the film Slow Horses, Gary Oldman plays the astute head of a group of British intelligence operatives who operate at Slough House, an MI5 “dumping ground.” It was after a grave error that almost brought his career to an end that he found himself there. The spy series, which is based on the same-titled book by Mick Herron, also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Cooke in supporting roles.
With Oldman shining as the crude, annoying, heavy-drinking leader of a crew anxious to prove themselves worthy—or at the very least, make it through another workday—Slow Horses is witty and very amusing. Pun intended, but this show is perhaps one of Apple TV+’s most underappreciated dark horses.
The Snoopy Show (2021)
The Snoopy Show, a sequel to Snoopy in Space (which is now available to watch on Apple TV+), features Terry McGurrin and Robert Tinkler as the popular Peanuts characters and their buddy Woodstock, respectively. The two go on a range of adventures in the animated series.
Snoopy makes a comeback as the Masked Marvel and a flying ace who battles the Red Baron in this adaptation of the Peanuts comic strip. Not to be overlooked are his other pals, Pig-Pen, Linus, Violet, Charlie Brown, Patty, Sally Brown, and others, all of whom make cameos throughout. For 2023, a second holiday special was announced.
The Buccaneers (2023)
Think about this Bridgerton version available on Apple TV+. In the movie The Buccaneers, a group of young ladies who are all the daughters of affluent Americans are going to go to London in order to find wealthy aristocrats to marry. Even if they may not be wealthy themselves, many men are drawn to them because of their elegant demeanor, attractive appearance, and wild ways.
The British historical drama is set in the 1870s and centers on the cultural conflicts that arise after the arrival of the young ladies. It is based on Edith Wharton’s incomplete book of the same name. Look out for Christina Hendricks from Mad Men and Josie Totah from the revival of Saved by the Bell.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
With Godzilla-based Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Kurt Russell is the most recent A-list celebrity to be enticed to join Apple TV+’s expanding roster of original programming. It is the sixth entry in the MonsterVerse franchise, the second to be a series, and it chronicles the journey of Monarch organization members over fifty years as they come across various creatures referred to as Titans.
Ten episodes make up the first season of the show, which also stars Joe Tippett, Anders Holm, and Wyatt Russell, the son of Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). The idea will appeal to fans of the MonsterVerse, and the father-son dynamic heightens the drama and charm of this show.
For All Mankind (2019)
Having worked on many Star Trek shows in the 1990s, notably the underappreciated Deep Space Nine, and helming the excellent Battlestar Galactica reboot in 2004, Ronald D. Moore is no stranger to space. Moore’s For All Mankind delves beyond Earth’s atmosphere once again, narrating an alternative reality in which NASA is forced to nurse its wounds and redouble its efforts on space missions after the Soviet Union defeats America to reach the moon. For All Mankind takes the entertaining route of speculating on how history may have turned out rather than focusing on the well-known tales that astronaut biopics usually mine. For instance, President Richard Nixon, hoping to win over more female voters, instructs NASA to send women into space. Though hardly groundbreaking, the program is entertaining—especially for those who like Cold War history.
Lessons in Chemistry (2023)
Even if Lessons in Chemistry may not be to everyone’s taste, Brie Larson gives a powerful, impassioned performance that cannot be denied. She is Elizabeth Zott, a 1950s chemist who is continuously passed up for possibilities while her male colleagues take them all.
But once tragedy strikes and Elizabeth loses her work, she is presented with an unusual opportunity: the chance to host a culinary program of her own. But Elizabeth does more than simply grin for the cameras and make bread. She is an outspoken feminist who is determined to fight for what is truly hers and use her voice to encourage other women. Lessons in Chemistry, which is based on Bonnie Garmus’s book of the same name, is a great choice if you’re searching for a strong “girl power” series.
