The PS5 has a lot of amazing new features from Sony, Does the PS5 have an online browser? but one thing is still lacking: a web browser. You cannot use a conventional web browser from your home screen, unlike with the PS4 predecessor. That seems like a major step back from what was offered years ago, so it’s a little disappointing.
Fortunately, there is yet hope. You can use your creativity and a little elbow grease to go online on a PS5. You can access the web on your fancy new-generation console, but it’s a complicated procedure and not the most user-friendly browser.
Here’s an overview of the PS5 web browser’s functionality.
Is there a web browser on the PS5?
Because the PS5 lacks the typical web browser that the PS4 has, users will not be able to easily access websites and browse the internet. For many who were used to using their prior consoles to access the internet, this is undoubtedly an annoying absence. It’s also a little odd that Sony decided to exclude such a helpful tool. Even though you might not be able to open a browser from your main menu, you can theoretically circumvent this by tinkering with the Twitter linking feature in your settings to access a very restricted web browser. However, this is a lot of hassle to go through for something that doesn’t really work in a way that users can actually benefit from.
Go to the Users and Accounts section of the Settings page on your PS5 if you would want to use the web browser. Proceed to Linked Services and locate Twitter from this point on. You can connect an account with this, and trying to link an account will launch a web browser. Simply click the Twitter logo at the top of the screen to be sent to a fairly conventional web browser login page, although one of poor quality.
Only the most basic web browsing is something we would advise doing with the web browser, and even then, that is stretching its limits. The DualSense is a cumbersome and sluggish piece of software, and navigating different sites with it isn’t the best experience either. Sony didn’t spend much effort improving the browser.
Regretfully, Sony has said on several times that it does not believe that web browser capability is necessary for game systems, thus it does not seem like the firm wants to add one to the PS5. It seems that if you’re a part of the PlayStation ecosystem, you’ll have to stick to using your outdated PS4 for web surfing. That’s unfortunate, but consider purchasing one of those web-enabled refrigerators.
