Summary
Without a question, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is among the greatest smartphones available right now. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU offers amazing speed together with plenty of RAM and storage, a massive 200MP camera, two telephoto lenses for 3x and 5x optical zoom, integration with the S Pen, and more. It’s undoubtedly a remarkable bundle.
It’s not flawless, however. In reality, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the next model, may address a few issues. Below is my wish list for the next year.
A fresh layout
The design of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the same as that of the S23 Ultra, which was derived from the S22 Ultra. To put it plainly, the design of the Galaxy S24 Ultra seems a little dated.
The general design isn’t bad, but it’s starting to seem a bit dated and monotonous. To be honest, this isn’t only a Samsung problem; at this point, it also affects Google, Apple, and even OnePlus. That does not, however, absolve Samsung. A fresh design for the Galaxy S25 series, which includes the S25 Ultra, would be fantastic.
Now is the time for a design overhaul of the Galaxy S series. I really hope that the design makeover will take place next year, even if the rumors haven’t confirmed it.
Increased RAM
Depending on the quantity of storage, customers of the Galaxy S21 Ultra might choose between 12GB and 16GB of RAM thanks to Samsung’s two RAM choices. With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung did away with the 16GB option, and it hasn’t come back.
Even while 12GB RAM is still more than plenty, it would be good to see 16GB RAM and the largest storage option—1TB—return for those who really want it. Maintaining the Ultra’s future-proofness would be a pleasant bonus, especially given its beginning price.
And keep in mind that the OnePlus 12 is available with 16GB of RAM, even if it costs less than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Really, there’s no excuse as to why Samsung shouldn’t start providing more RAM for its priciest non-foldable phone once again.
upgraded cameras with a 10-fold optical zoom
Samsung made a rather perplexing decision with the S24 Ultra on how to handle the telephoto lenses in the quad camera setup.
Samsung upgraded the 10MP periscope telephoto on the S23 Ultra to a 50MP periscope telephoto on the S24 Ultra, which was only capable of 5x optical zoom. It can, of course, take closer-up, higher-resolution photos with 10x optical quality cropping thanks to its 50MP resolution.
It’s strange that Samsung chose to remove the S23 Ultra’s 10x optical zoom off the list since it was a major selling factor. On paper, having a 5x optical zoom isn’t all that exciting, particularly considering that the majority of the competition shares this feature. Although the 5x telescopic camera on the S24 Ultra is excellent, the switch from 10x to 5x is still a strange decision. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, which has a bigger sensor and more megapixels, should bring back the 10x optical zoom.
While we’re talking about it, it would be good to see Samsung increase the ultrawide camera’s megapixel count as well for more clarity and detail.
quicker recharging
Even with the switch to USB-C, one of the main benefits that the majority of Android phones have over iPhones is their quicker charging times. Samsung may do better in that area as well.
For instance, depending on your location, the OnePlus 12, a premium phone for 2024, offers either 80W or 100W fast wired charging. Even yet, 80W is still very quick, even if you live in the United States and have the “slower” charging speed. With the OnePlus 12, you can go from a dead battery to full capacity in around thirty minutes.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 45W rapid wired charging capacity is still limited. Although it is an improvement over the 25W of the Galaxy S24 basic model, 45W is still less efficient than 80W.
I would really want to see the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s charging speed increase. My desire is that my S24 Ultra will charge as quickly as the OnePlus 12. Of course, you won’t need to charge your phone as often thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s improved battery efficiency. Even so, a faster wired charger can’t be bad, can it?
Bring restore the ability to extend storage
The capacity to increase storage using a microSD card was one of the benefits that many Android phones had over iPhones in the past. These days, even Samsung’s top-tier flagship phone is becoming tougher to find that performs this. The option is probably available on more entry-level or mid-range smartphones, but it isn’t present on the pricey flagship models made by the majority of manufacturers.
Although it seems improbable, I would really want to see Samsung reintroduce expandable storage. Of course, there is a 1TB version of the S24 Ultra available, but it costs a big penny—$1,660, to be precise. Getting 256GB or 512GB and adding extra storage with a memory card as required is more practical for most people.
It’s quite improbable since flagship phones with expandable storage are becoming more difficult to obtain. After all, Samsung hasn’t provided this option for the Galaxy S20 in four years. Hey, I can dream, after all.
There is still a long wait
With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series just a few months ago, there will be a significant wait before the S25 range.
Even if the S24 Ultra is now among the greatest high-end Android phones on the market, there is definitely space for development. Ultimately, they aren’t very lofty demands given the high beginning price.
