Samsung is expected to present the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, their newest foldables, during its Galaxy Unpacked event this summer. Although earlier speculation indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will come in two variants—a refined Ultra model and a mainstream model—a recent leak indicates otherwise. Samsung is said to be working on a less expensive version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6—possibly called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE to adhere to the company’s naming scheme for its finest Android phones—instead of an Ultra model.
That’s according to ET News, which back in February first predicted that the Z Fold 6 will launch in a less expensive form. This week’s news confirms the rumor that the South Korean business intends to add the Fan Edition (or FE) label to its foldable smartphone lineup. The digitizer, the display layer required to detect a pen’ location, is expected to be removed from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE (or whatever name Samsung decides to give it) in order to save costs. This means that S Pen Support will be lost.
What other possible cost-cutting strategies Samsung could use is yet unknown. Based on what we’ve seen of the Galaxy A series and Galaxy S23 FE, which skimp on certain components and use less expensive materials in their construction to reduce total cost, we may, however, make an informed judgment. In order to save money, Samsung could decide to restrict storage choices or stick with hardware from the previous generation for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE’s camera and RAM.
A less expensive FE version might persuade more people to check out the foldable phone phenomenon, considering how expensive they can be. It would make one of the most innovative phone technologies available to a larger market and allow Samsung to take a larger share of the industry. This is a wise decision, considering that Huawei is rapidly challenging Samsung to take the lead in the foldable smartphone market.
The pricing that Samsung plans to charge for any of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 variants is currently unknown. Prior pricing estimates for the basic model, however, range from $1,699 to $1,799, so the less expensive model would need to be much less expensive to be competitive. August 2024 is when we anticipate Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
It’s possible that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will resemble the Galaxy S24 Ultra
