In a few months, the Google Pixel 8a is anticipated to make its public debut – possibly at I/O 2024. Apart from the details obtained via unauthorized midranger renderings and pre-launch leaks, not much is known about the gadget. But now, a Google employee has disclosed that the Pixel 8a and subsequent models would be reintroducing a previously deleted Android function.
Though it’s not exactly a huge mystery given the release schedule of the company’s most recent Pixel A-series phones, this is the first time Google has publicly confirmed the existence of the midranger. The information was made public when many people noticed that the Settings > About Phone > Battery Information page was vanished. An employee at Google just responded with the following:
When Android 14 QPR1 early betas were released last year, the Battery information page was made accessible. However, with the latest release of Android 14 QPR2, it was inexplicably deleted. The battery’s production date and cycle count are the only details this battery stats section offers, as you can see below. Other than that, not much information about the battery is provided.
Even still, Google informed those who were naturally inquisitive as to why it had been taken down that this was intentional conduct. The good news is that this battery information area will return to the Pixel 8a and later variants.
But giving you some basic information about your Pixel’s battery life doesn’t seem like a labor-intensive operation that should only be performed by more recent hardware. Given the volume of feedback from Pixel owners on the problem tracker, maybe Google will reconsider its position in this case.
on the Pixel 8a, there still a number of unknowns, despite unconfirmed initial claims on the phone’s price. Given that Google has already sent out invitations for this year’s I/O Connect, which will be held in Berlin in June, we could be looking at another May announcement. I/O Connect, which takes place in Miami, Amsterdam, and Bengaluru on different days following I/O 2023, is a follow-up event to the main I/O event.
