With Google releasing Gemini for Google Messages (in beta) as part of their multi-layered MWC 2024 announcements, this specific feature update is now official.

Currently only accessible in “certain markets,” according to Google, this function is only available in English. This week, the deployment will start gradually. Google announced that the AI chatbot would be accessible in French in addition to English for customers in Canada. Although there isn’t a set list of locations where this service will be available, residents of the US and Canada ought to be at the top of the list. According to Google’s tiny print, there can also be device-based limitations for this new capability.

However, given the current controversy surrounding picture creation, we wouldn’t be shocked if Google chose to proceed with the Gemini integration in Messages with greater caution.
