Google introduced Circle to Search, a new system-wide gesture that allows for rapid content search of what’s on your phone’s screen, coinciding with the mid-January debut of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Long-pressing the home button or the navigation gesture bar will activate the new search feature, which allows you to circle or draw on an object to learn more about it. Google is integrating translation functionality for Circle to Search in order to improve the use of the tool. Additionally, it is making the gesture available for all of the Pixel devices that are now supported.
Google’s Circle to Search
Right now, you may choose to copy or translate text when you use Circle to Search to circle or write over some text. When you wish to translate a PDF or all the text on your phone’s screen at once, this technique might be time-consuming. This will be simpler with the translation integration in Circle to Search. To search in Circle, just hit the translate shortcut next to the search box as it becomes available to you. The language of the material on the screen is then automatically detected by your phone and changed to either English or the language you have selected.
If you often receive PDFs or documents in a foreign language, you should find that utilizing Circle to Search to translate on-screen material can greatly expedite your process. Furthermore, it will facilitate the translation of foreign language material in photographs.
Circle to Search will soon be available on more Samsung and Pixel smartphones
In addition to the helpful translation feature, Google is bringing Circle to Search to additional devices. The system-wide gesture has been accessible on the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 series since its launch in January. With the March 2024 Feature Drop, support for the gesture was added to the Pixel 7 series. More Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7a, are now receiving Circle to Search. Additionally, it is “coming soon” to the Pixel Tablet and Fold.
Furthermore, the next One UI 6.1 update, which is scheduled to release later this week, will enable support for the gesture on Samsung’s 2023 flagship products, which include the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and Tab S9 series. Google has not said if Circle to Search will soon be available on other non-Pixel and non-Galaxy smartphones, but based on a footnote found in a Samsung support article, it may not happen until October.
