Summary
New on Netflix… The streaming service Netflix releases a fresh slate of films every month that are deserving of a place on your watchlist. However, although the streaming service provides a number of benefits, it also has a number of drawbacks. For example, each month, a significant number of the greatest movies that Netflix has to offer are withdrawn from the collection accessed by the streaming service.
Must-Watch: 5 Films Leaving Netflix This Month – Catch Them Before They’re Gone!
Netflix will be saying farewell to one of the most bizarre horror films of the last five years in April 2024, and that is not all that will happen on the streaming service. Additionally, “Joker” is scheduled to leave the stage in a positive manner; nevertheless, you should view the comedic thriller before the last bow, since its sequel is scheduled to arrive in cinemas later this year. In addition, we are going to lose two films that are considered to be Oscar favorites: “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Whiplash.”
New on Netflix
Despite the fact that Netflix has introduced a few new movies that are of high quality in their stead, you should still make it a point to see these five films before they are permanently removed from the streaming service (or at least, removed for the time being, since the streaming service is known for recycling its catalog).
“Whiplash” (2014)
As it celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, the thrilling drama “Whiplash,” which features a towering performance from J. K. Simmons at its center, continues to be as throbbing and riveting as it was when it was first released. Miles Teller portrays the role of Andrew Neiman, a young jazz drummer with aspirations of becoming successful at the famed Shaffer Conservatory. After being selected for the school’s most prestigious Studio Band, Andrew believes that he is well on his way to realizing his full musical potential. However, he quickly gets into a heated argument with Simmons’ ruthless teacher, Terence Fletcher, who is in the band.
Fletcher is adamant about pushing his students to their limits, but in order to do this, he resorts to psychological and even physical discipline in order to get the greatest performance out of his students. Andrew’s obsession with gaining Fletcher’s favor causes him to cross the line into obsessive area, which is a perilous place to find himself in. Damien Chazelle’s “Whiplash,” which takes place entirely inside the confines of a music conservatory and is rather claustrophobic, is much more suspenseful and intense than many other action movies. It is a great example of contemporary art.
See it on Netflix till the 30th of April.
“Malignant” (2021)
“Malignant” is without a doubt one of the most outrageous and unforgettable horror films that have been released in the last few years. In spite of the fact that it is not especially terrifying, “Maligant” is not too concerned with causing you nightmares. Instead, it is a deranged bloodfest with a high-concept premise that conceals a surprise that is absolutely lethal. The director of “The Conjuring” series, James Wan, is responsible for directing this film, which lacks tension in favor of eerie fun, but the weird humorous aspect that is included in it works very well.
In the movie and television series “Maligant,” Annabelle Wallis plays Madison, a young woman who is dealing with a head injury that won’t stop bleeding and a series of terrible visions. When the killings that she keeps seeing in her nightmares start to transpire in real life, her growing paranoia reaches new heights and a new level of intensity. To be quite honest, there is a little bit more to “Maligant” than the very basic premise that was presented before; nonetheless, this is a movie that is best watched with as little prior knowledge as possible. In the event that you are already sold, I would even suggest ignoring the trailer that is posted above.
See it on Netflix until the 26th of April.
“Step Brothers” (2008)
It is not just one of the most quotable movies of the 21st century, but it is also one of the most hilarious movies in the history of film. The hilarious genius of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly is brought together in the film “Step Brothers,” which also has Adam McKay in the lens of the camera. Considering that “Step Brothers” has the likes of Adam Scott, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins, and Kathryn Hahn, it should come as no surprise that the television show is very entertaining. After watching it numerous times, you will still be able to uncover fresh jokes and puns that you missed the first time around since it is that packed with comedic material.
Brennan and Dale are a pair of slackers who are 40 years old and still reside at home. They take pleasure in having a monopoly on their single parent’s attention. Ferrell and Reilly portray the roles of Brennan and Dale. But when Brennan’s mother and Dale’s father get married and become stepbrothers, the very immature pair will have to swiftly learn how to share all they have with one another. The giant man-babies are at odds with one another at first, but they gradually discover certain things they have in common and become friends. However, when they are given a deadline of one month to find a job or go someplace else to live, their comfortable lifestyles are thrown into chaos. They have little choice but to locate a substitute.
See it on Netflix till the 30th of April.
“Joker” (2019)
In the last several years, it seems that “Joker” has been subjected to a period of critical reevaluation, if my social media feed is any indicator. Joaquin Phoenix, who played the role of Arthur Fleck, a social outcast who takes on the identity of the Joker, was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in the dark comic book movie, which made more than one billion dollars at the box office throughout the world in 2019. Some people have criticized the Todd Phillips-directed movie because they think it has been overhyped, but I still think it is one of the best movies the superhero genre has produced in the past half-decade.
The remarkable level of commitment that Phoenix displays throughout the movie is what gives “Joker” its true power. In the same breath, Fleck is a character that elicits both pity and contempt from his audience. In addition, I would argue that Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy are deserving of a great deal of respect for their supporting parts, which not only help to keep the tale going forward but also know when to step aside and allow Phoenix to shine. There is no better time than the present to see “Joker” or to watch it again since the sequel, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” has just released its debut trailer and is scheduled to be released in cinemas later this year.
See it on Netflix till the 30th of April.
“Silver Linings Playbook” (2012)
I have only ever resumed “Silver Linings Playbook” after I had finished watching it, making it one of the few movies I have ever done so. This film has a number of well-known actors, including Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, and Chris Tucker, among others. It is packed with lovable characters, heartwarming sentiments, and a reassuring sense of humor, despite the fact that the narrative may be a bit lacking in terms of depth. From the very beginning to the very end, it is an exceptionally lovely film.
Pat, the character that Cooper portrays, is a teacher who has been housed in a mental health facility for the last several months in an effort to bring his bipolar condition under control. Pat’s life takes a new turn when he meets Tiffany (Lawrence), a widow who is also dealing with her own mental health issues. Pat is having a hard time coming to grips with his recent divorce. The two get closer to one another and find consolation in one another after agreeing to be her partner for an upcoming dancing competition. However, their individual problems have the potential to ruin this newly developing romantic relationship.
See it on Netflix till the 30th of April.
