Spotify.. The new media player notification in Android 13 is squiggly and lets you easily switch the output source to other paired or connected Google Cast devices. Google first revealed plans to work with Spotify to incorporate SpotiFy Connect into the Android media player back at CES 2023. The feature hasn’t been released for almost a year, and both firms have been quiet since the original announcement. Given that Google reintroduced the SpotiFy connection with the Android media player at MWC 2024, it looks like the functionality may eventually launch.
In addition to a flurry of announcements about Wear OS and Android 2024, Google also revealed that SpotiFy Connect will be integrated with the media player on Android devices. This will allow you to switch the music playback to other SpotiFy Connect devices by using the source choice in the media player notification. By doing this, you can basically use your phone as a SpotiFy remote control and manage music playback on other devices without ever opening the app.
The device suggestions are dynamic and change depending on your location, the time of day, and how close you are to the speakers. This is another benefit of this function.
Still, Google did not specify when the functionality will be released in its statement. Therefore, there’s still a chance that SpotiFy integration with the media player on Android won’t ever happen. Hopefully, it won’t happen this time, and in the next days, Google and SpotiFy will make the function available.
When it comes to incorporating new Android capabilities into its app, SpotiFy is usually one of the fastest third-party developers. Therefore, there was an uncommon delay on the part of the corporation, and it’s probable that there were some issues that needed to be resolved.
Few applications currently provide wide-ranging interaction with the output switcher in Android’s media player notification, including YouTube Music. With any app, you can use YouTube Music to instantly connect to devices that support Cast, but you can also use it to swap between Bluetooth devices and your device’s speaker. Not many of the top Android music players currently have this feature.
