the best new movies Streaming on Peacock and Netflix
Due to the fact that “Dune: Part Two” and “Immaculate” will both be having their premieres this week, premium streaming is experiencing an especially prosperous week. The first is the science fiction epic that has been the topic of debate on social media for many weeks (you have probably already seen the “Lisan Al Gaib” response meme), while the later is a horror picture that is quite captivating and stars Sydney Sweeney from the United Kingdom.
On top of that, the fantastic independent chiller “Late Night with the Devil” is now available on Shudder, and “Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver” is now available on Netflix.
Take a look at the whole list of new films that are available to view this week; these are just some of the options available to you. To add insult to injury, this week also features a plethora of brand new television series that you may watch.
Freud’s Last Session (Netflix)
This week brings another heartfelt historical drama starring Anthony Hopkins, which follows the release of “One Life” earlier this month on streaming services. The iconic British actor plays the titular character of Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, in the film “Freud’s Last Session.” Freud meets up with novelist C. S. Lewis (Matthew Goode) only two days after the beginning of World War II. Freud talks to Lewis about his ideas on the subject of psychoanalysis.
The two profound thinkers discuss a wide range of subjects throughout the conversation, including Lewis’s experiences in World War I and J. R. R. Tolkien’s writings. A heated discussion on the existence of God is also taking place between the two of them. The delicate connection that the doctor has with his daughter Anna, played by Liv Lisa Fries, is another topic that is investigated in “Freud’s Last Session.” In spite of the fact that the movie is regarded as a work of fiction, rather than being based on a true tale or authentic historical recountings, it creates a one-of-a-kind biographical drama by combining pieces of Freud’s life that happened in real life with elements of imagination.
You can begin streaming on Netflix on April 20.
‘Migration’ (Peacock)
This week, the newest animated feature film from Illumination will be making its debut on Peacock after a successful run in theaters at the tail end of 2023. This adorable film for families tells the story of a family of ducks that make the decision to leave their home in New England and go to Jamaica, where the weather is warm and bright. Mack, the patriarch of the tribe, played by Kumail Nanjiani, is first hesitant to leave the security of their pond. However, with the encouragement of his wife, Pam, played by Elizabeth Banks, and two active children, he ultimately decides to undertake the lengthy trek south.
The first time they attempted to migrate, however, things quickly went wrong when a thunderstorm caused them to deviate from their intended path and land in New York City. Despite the fact that they are not discouraged, the family makes the decision to proceed with their vacation plans, but their journey is only getting started. “Migration” is an animated film that is both engaging and entertaining, and it will appeal most strongly to younger audiences. It is a lovely family comedy that emphasizes the significance of stepping outside of your comfort zone and never being frightened of a little adventure.
Beginning April 19, you may stream it on Peacock.
‘Immaculate’ (PVOD)
The popularity of Sydney Sweeney continues to grow, and despite the fact that her presence in the comic book disappointment “Madame Web” was a rare blunder in her career, “Immaculate” puts her back on track as a talent who is worth keeping an eye on. Sweeney plays the role of Cecilia, an American woman who relocates to Rome in order to take her vows in a distant convent located in the rural countryside of Italy. This skin-crawling nightmare takes place in Rome. However, after she has established herself at the convent, she begins to unearth sinister secrets, and what first begins as a spiritual trip gradually turns into a living nightmare as the convent’s twisted intentions for her are exposed.
Because “Immaculate” is one of those films that is best appreciated with as little information as possible before seeing it, I will keep this brief in order to prevent accidentally revealing anything that may be spoiler-worthy. I’ll simply say that “Immaculate” is without a doubt one of the most surprising things that has happened to me this year up to this point. The tale gets to some truly surprising and fairly intense areas, and Sweeney does a great job in the main part. There are also some extremely intense spots. A word of caution: if you have a sensitive temperament, you should probably avoid watching this feature film. However, if you are able to deal with blood, you really must watch it.
Purchasing will begin on April 16 on Amazon.
‘Hundreds of Beavers’ (PVOD)
Without a doubt, the most peculiar film that has been made available for streaming this week is “Hundreds of Beavers,” which is a crazy slapstick comedy that is presented in black and white and does not include any speech. It is an homage to the legendary Hollywood comedies of the silent period, which starred legends such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, and it has received a lot of positive feedback ever since it made its premiere at the festival. According to Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an outstanding 95% rating score.
In this ridiculous comedy, which takes place in the nineteenth century, the protagonist is an applejack salesman who, after suffering the loss of his company in a fire and being stuck in the woods, embarks on a journey to become the most successful fur trapper in North America. For him to get from “zero” to “hero,” however, he will have to triumph against a large number of beavers. On the other hand, these beavers are not artificially manufactured pests at all. Instead, each character is portrayed by an adult actor dressed in a full-sized furry suit, which contributes even more to the hilarity of the performance.
You may now rent or buy on Amazon.
‘Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver’ (Netflix)
It was with a bit of a thud that the first “Rebel Moon” movie was released on Netflix in the month of December 2023. Despite receiving a dismal 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it did not leave a lasting effect on the list of the top 10 most-watched movies on the streaming service. Additionally, the critical reaction it received was not very kind. As a result of this, there is a significant decrease in the amount of excitement surrounding its sequel; yet, “Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver” has the potential to be an unexpectedly successful film that rectifies the errors made by its predecessor (or it may be yet another garbage film…).
Kora, a former soldier who has converted into a rebel, will once again be the protagonist of the second chapter of the “Rebel Moon” epic. She will be accompanied by her army of recruits from all across the galaxy as they take a stand against the mighty forces of the Imperium. To Kora’s utter surprise, her chief nemesis, Admiral Atticus Noble (played by Ed Skrein), has also returned. As a result, the elite warrior will be compelled to confront her past in order to triumph over a foe whom she had believed to be dead. The production qualities of the “Rebel Moon” series are pretty dang excellent, despite the fact that it is possible to accuse it of having a science fiction world that is somewhat derivative.
Beginning April 19, you may stream it on Netflix.
