WhatsApp ..In order to provide a safer and more secure conversation experience, WhatsApp has strengthened the security of its platform in recent years. You may use WhatsApp to exchange private images and videos with your friends and family without having to worry about them sending the material to other people when you utilize view-once media. The view-once material is not even capable of being screenshotted by them. With the aim of enhancing user privacy on its network, Meta has initiated the implementation of screenshot blocking for WhatsApp profile images.
In February 2024, WhatsApp was seen developing screenshot blocking on profile images. Although Meta has not yet formally announced the feature’s release, it seems like a server-side push is being used for widespread testing. On the most recent stable version of the program, a family member of one of my AP colleagues says that they are unable to snap a screenshot of the display photo of their WhatsApp connections. WhatsApp displays an error message stating that app constraints prevent it from taking a screenshot.
Why WhatsApp doesn’t allow screenshots?
I can snap a screenshot with my Pixel 8 Pro running the WhatsApp beta for Android v2.24.6.15, but the user’s display image is blank. Dallas and Manuel, editors of Android Police, are seeing the same behavior. Whether the other user is using an iPhone or an Android device, or whether they are using the most recent version of WhatsApp, is irrelevant to this.
It seems that restricting screenshots of display photos is turned on by default; I haven’t been able to find a way to turn it off. When WhatsApp releases the functionality to the whole public, this might potentially alter. Note that when you press on a contact’s display picture from the chat list, a little popup will open. You may screenshot this popup.
Of course, you may use the camera on another phone to take a photograph of the profile image. Alternatively, you may snap a screenshot of the person’s display image from your computer by using WhatsApp Web or the desktop client. Nevertheless, fraudsters and stalkers should have a harder time getting away with it thanks to WhatsApp’s privacy feature. Go to Settings > Privacy > Profile Photo to conceal your WhatsApp profile image from the public for maximum privacy.
Meta will have an advantage over Signal once screenshot blocking for profile images is formally implemented. Although the latter is a communication platform with a stronger privacy emphasis, users are nonetheless able to take screenshots of display photos. Not even Telegram has a way to stop profile image screenshots from being blocked.
Screenshot blocking for profile images is a great development, especially in light of the increase in fraudsters using WhatsApp. Furthermore, the bulk of platform users should instantly profit from it since it seems to be activated by default.
